Spring into Hygge: 11 Ways to Carry on the Coziness this Spring

When we think of Hygge, we often imagine warm blankets, soft lighting, cold days, and hot drinks. As we step into spring, where our days become brighter and warmer, we can still enjoy comfort and connection of Hygge:

  1. Bring the Outdoors In

There is so much beauty blooming this time of year, why not cheer up your home with some fresh flowers and plants? Farmer’s markets are wonderful places to get flowers this time of year, but if your Farmer’s Market hasn’t started yet, Trader Joe’s is an excellent option for well-priced, beautiful bouquets. Or better yet, plant some flowers in your garden or patio for fresh flowers all season! We had some bright yellow daffodils sprouting up in our backyard, so I picked them today and put them in a vase on our coffee table. I can’t help but smile each time I walk by them.

  1. Eat Outdoors with Friends

Whether you pack up a picnic or find a café with outdoor seating, eating a leisurely meal outside with friends is sure to bring you the contented feelings of hygge. Bring along some playing cards or just relax in the natural flow of good conversation.

  1. Brighten up the Accent Décor in your Home

Winter is over, but that doesn’t mean the coziness in your home has to stop! Just freshen up the feel of your home with white, pastel, or bright-colored accent pillows, duvet covers, and table runners. Add some floral prints or fun textures and voila! It’s like a whole new home! We have a giant chalkboard on a wall in our living room and in the spring I love to write quotes and add some floral accents with pink, purple, and green chalk! Check out Target’s earthenware vase, Anthropologie’s mixed media floral tea towel, and Modcloth’s” branch manager” throw pillow for some inspiration!

  1. Find a New Favorite Beverage for the Season

I’m a firm believer in seasonal drinks. My favorite coffee drink in the spring is a Lavender White Chocolate Mocha and it’s delicious hot or iced! If you’re not a coffee drinker, fruit-flavored iced teas and lemonades are also lovely. Peruse Winederlustings Top 10 List of Spring Cocktails for something a bit stronger!

  1. Take a Walk or Hike Outdoors

Appreciate the nature growing all around with a hike through a forest, mountain, or park. Invite some friends along and make a day of it! There are some great websites out there that can help you find a new trail to explore in your area, including MapMyHike, TrailLink, and AllTrails.

  1. Declutter Your Home

There’s just something about a clutter-free home that feels so liberating and allows you to relax in your space. Start your spring cleaning journey with some Decluttering Inspiration from The Art of Simple!

  1. Bake Something

Homemade scones, muffins, and coffee cake are delightful to have with your coffee on a breezy spring morning. I’ve been dying to try these recipes for Blackberry Lavender White Chocolate Scones and Cream Cheese Banana Bread Coffee Cake. For a quicker option, I love Sticky Fingers Bakeries “just add water” scones mixes from World Market.

  1. Read a Book Outside

Reading at the park or in our backyard on a sunny day is my favorite! Take along a big blanket to spread out and your new spring seasonal drink and get lost in the world of a good novel. Check out Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Spring Reading List from some ideas! I’m currently reading her first book on the list, All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot.

  1. Continue with Candles or Diffuse Essential Oils

I think candles are excellent all year round, but if they feel a little too cold-weather for you, try diffusing some lavender or tea tree essential oil in your home for a fresh feel and delightful scent. I’m hoping to try out Magnolia Market’s Spring Candle myself this season!

  1. Do Good Deeds

After being hunkered down indoors all winter, now is the perfect time to get out there and do some good deeds for our fellow man. Buy a bouquet of flowers and hand them out to people as you pass them on the sidewalk. Give out water bottles on a hot day in the park. Pick up garbage you see on the side of the road. You’ll get a double-dose of good feelings being out in the sun and brightening another person’s day! For a more organized approach, check out VolunteerMatch and choose a cause you can volunteer for in your area!

  1. Celebrate the season with friends

Host an Easter brunch for friends, gather a group for an outdoor game night, or break out the floral china for a good old-fashioned tea party. Here are some simple hosting ideas to begin with no matter what theme you decide on!
